Muslims in Europe and the West

Featuring Tariq Ramadan (first U.S. appearance since he was barred from entering the country in 2004) With Dalia Mogahed, George Packer, Joan Wallach Scott, and Jacob Weisberg

Is there a fundamental clash of values between secularism and Islam and between freedom of expression and freedom of religion? In what ways are Muslims living in the West contributing to their democratic societies? Can Islam exist as a Western religion? Is it a Western religion already?

A Panel discussion featuring

TARIQ RAMADAN, author of more than 20 books, including What I Believe; Radical Reform: Islamic Ethics and Liberation; Western Muslims and the Future of Islam; Islam, the West, and the Challenges of Modernity; and To Be a European Muslim

GEORGE PACKER, staff writer at The New Yorker and author  Interesting Times: Writings from a Turbulent Decade

JOAN WALLACH SCOTT, Professor of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) and author of The Politics of the Veil

DALIA MOGAHED, Director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies and a member of the Advisory Council to President Obama
The panel will be moderated by journalist and editor-in-chief of The Slate Group, Jacob Weisberg.
